The activity program at Prairie Senior Cottages is thoughtfully designed to stimulate the minds of residents and to help them connect with cherished memories from the past. Whether invoking moments of joy or solace, the responsive staff take the time to engage in meaningful conversations and reminiscing with residents, offering a testament to the supportive and responsive environment cultivated within the community. Household Activities Choice. Purpose. Meaning. For our residents, it’s those three things that mean the most in their daily lives. They want to feel like a part of the community. They want to have fun. They want the opportunity to have normal days, and we make those wishes a reality. At the time of admission, families are asked to share their loved one’s past interests, hobbies, habits and passions. This allows our Cottage Heroes to develop an intimate understanding of our residents from the very beginning — promoting their physical, mental and psychosocial well-being. We ask questions like: “ What did Mom and Dad always do? ” “ What makes them laugh? ” “ What gives them purpose? ” “ What’s their favorite type of music? ” “ Did they like to have coffee with the neighbor? ” “ Did Mom like to go the beautician? ” We find the answers to these types of questions, and then we make it happen.
