Lukas Community

The Lukas Community is a residential community dedicated to adults with developmental challenges, fostering a nurturing environment that encourages personal growth and development. Established in 1981, it is nestled on 65 acres in the scenic surroundings of Temple, New Hampshire, and is recognized as a vibrant community that has grown from a single household to four households with a team of house parents and employees. The community operates on the principles of cooperative living, social interaction, and spiritual activities inspired by Anthroposophy, as developed by Rudolf Steiner. At the Lukas Community, individuals with disabilities live alongside co-workers and volunteers, sharing their lives and work in a family-like setting that is both supportive and therapeutic. Lukas Community encompasses four extended-family households set on 65 acres, providing a rich tapestry of support for adults with developmental challenges. Each resident interacts within a caring network that includes residential life and vocational opportunities aimed at enhancing personal development. The community is equipped with two handicapped-accessible residences, a weaving studio, woodworking shop, organic gardens, and a barn for animal care. The environment is designed to foster growth, with art and craft workshops, gardens, and therapeutic programs as foundational elements. Residents are encouraged to engage with the larger community through cultural activities and volunteer opportunities, enhancing their integration into the wider social fabric.
