Established with the mission to support those aged 60 and older, the center aims to promote independence while ensuring dignity in a home-like setting. Seniors can enjoy a range of supportive services designed to enhance their personal autonomy and engage in various activities and volunteering opportunities to overcome social and economic barriers. This center stands out as a proud provider of the Meals on Wheels program, delivering nutritious meals to home-bound seniors. It also serves as a hub for promoting healthy aging through numerous health, nutritional, educational, cultural, and recreational programs. The staff and volunteers work tirelessly to help aging adults stay independent, active, and healthy. The Jacksonville Senior Wellness & Activity Center has a rich history, beginning in 1974 as the Jacksonville Elderly Activities Program. Today, it operates in a modern facility built with the help of community funding, located on the site of the former Graco theatre in Jacksonville. The center is contracted to deliver services with CareLink and receives funding from various sources, including federal and state programs. It caters to those aged 60 and above, while allowing participants to bring spouses under the age of 60. A diverse leadership team and a Board of Directors, made up of volunteers, ensure the center runs smoothly and maintains its community-driven focus.
