Residential Care Home

The Independent Living Association (ILA) has been a cornerstone of care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities for over 30 years. Based in New York City, it is dedicated to fostering increased independence and community integration, while providing comprehensive support for families. ILA prides itself on its exceptional team of human service professionals who are committed to meeting the complex needs of individuals across the city. Founded in 1985 by John P. Welch, ILA began as a residential haven for those whose other option was large institutional care. Under his vision, ILA became a permanent home for many. Today, the association continues to grow, working closely with the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) to ensure that each individual leads a fulfilling life within the community. ILA operates more than 35 group homes known as Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRAs) across New York City. These homes are thoughtfully designed to complement the surrounding community and provide a nurturing environment for residents. The residences boast well-appointed facilities including kitchens, dining areas, bedrooms, and recreational spaces. Safety is paramount, with an extensive on-call emergency response system comprising executive staff, medical professionals, and maintenance personnel. The residences are maintained at all times by a dedicated team of direct support professionals and landscapers.
