Family Initiative Residences (FIR) is dedicated to providing residential services and lifestyle guidance for individuals with mental illness. Established by members of the Georgia Alliance For The Mentally Ill (now NAMI Georgia) in 1985, FIR opened its first personal care home in 1986 in Decatur, followed by additional homes and apartments over the years, including a move to a campus in historic Olde Town Conyers in 2006. FIR's mission is to offer a supportive, structured environment aimed at encouraging residents to live as independently as possible through a goal-oriented support program. FIR's campus features a private gated community with a secure keypad entry and 24-hour video surveillance. Residents have the option of independent living in private or roommate-shared apartments. The program supports structured living with a focus on self-reliance and independence while emphasizing medication monitoring and personal care.
