Discovery Living provides individualized, life-long support to adults with developmental disabilities, aiming to promote personal growth, success, and satisfaction through life experiences. The organization operates with the help of generous donors, community organizations, and partners, such as the Knights of Columbus, who have supported its sustainability over the years. The support they offer is essential and allows for a wide array of individualized services, including home and vehicle modifications, which funding sources do not cover. Discovery Living serves over 150 adults in the community, employing more than 250 caregivers. Many individuals who reside in their homes have been with the organization for over a decade. They provide services under the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waiver. Discovery Living operates over 30 residential settings across the Greater Cedar Rapids area, providing 24-hour support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization employs over 250 staff members, mainly providing direct support. Most residential homes accommodate 3-5 individuals, providing support tailored to each person's needs. The organization has a waitlist due to its high demand for services. Homes are located in community settings providing access to meaningful resources, such as shopping, parks, and social opportunities.
