Able South Carolina

Able SC is a leader in advocacy and thought leadership, committed to fostering self-sufficiency and independence among people with disabilities. Established in 1994, it stands as South Carolina’s first and largest federally recognized, disability-led nonprofit. Focused on making the state a model of equity and inclusion through consumer-driven independence and disability pride, Able SC empowers the community by advocating for effective and inclusive systems and policies. More than three-quarters of their staff and over half of the Board of Directors are people with disabilities, solidifying their mission to challenge stereotypes and eliminate barriers. Able SC offers a multitude of services including peer support, community education, and advocacy. It stands firmly on principles of equity, disability justice, and true inclusion, ensuring that access to services is barrier-free, not as a form of special treatment, but as a basic right. Their core mission is to equip people with disabilities with tools to foster pride and direct their lives, advocate at all levels, and educate the wider community on inclusiveness and disability rights.
